Sangeet, haldi and mehndi invitation wording: 15 examples

Invitation wording for the sangeet, haldi and mehndi: what each needs on the card, who is invited, the dress code, and 15 examples for a card or WhatsApp.

14 October 2026 · 5 min read

The wedding card goes to everyone. The sangeet, the haldi and the mehndi go to different lists, at different times, with different dress codes, and each needs its own invitation. Here is what each one has to say, who it goes to, and fifteen examples you can copy onto an insert, a page or a WhatsApp message.

What every function invitation needs

  • Which function it is. Guests dress for a haldi (yellow, washable) very differently from a sangeet (something to dance in).
  • Whose it is. "Priya's mehndi" or "the sangeet for Priya and Arjun".
  • Who is hosting. The bride's family for the mehndi and haldi, both families for a joint sangeet.
  • Who is invited. Ladies only, close family, everyone. Say it plainly; it is the first question anyone asks.
  • Date, start time, rough end time. Functions run late; guests want to know how late.
  • Place, with a postcode. The house or the hall.
  • Dress. The colour, and whether henna will be offered.
  • Food. Dinner, snacks, breakfast after the haldi.
  • How to reply. A reply-by date, or "let us know".

The simplest way to run this is one guest list, tagged by function, with a personalised link per household that says which functions they are invited to. Our guide to inviting guests to several wedding functions online walks through it.

Where the words go

On an Indian wedding invitation page the mehndi, sangeet, haldi, baraat and reception are cards, each with its own date, time, venue, dress note and a line about what happens, and the reply form can ask "Which functions will you be joining?" with the five as options. Guests see the week at a glance and reply once for the household. One payment of £40 covers any number of guests and functions.
